Life at Oma-care.

Clara goes to Oma and Opa's house everyday! They provide the best daycare available, and Clara gets to see Oma, Opa, and Auntie Emmy more regularly than I do! My Mom ensures me this situation is a win-win...for us and for them!

Some days...I'm not so sure! I think we really are getting the much better deal, but i know they love to spend everyday with their only granddaughter too! These are the pics I received via text yesterday, along with some cute blurb about my "happy, agile, hungry" little girl. That is the very nice way to say that not only didn't she eat well (which has been going on since she fell off the wagon and got hooked to milk again), BUT she also didn't nap well!

We owe you guys...just make sure she doesn't make this next activity a daily occurrence!

They say the best gifts...

For toddlers aren't the gifts at all, but the packaging.

In our experience, that is absolutely true!

camping at Hazard Lake - 2012.

We've been going to Hazard Lake for years.  You may remember last year.  Quite a ball!  This year was no exception.  I wasn't working the day we left, and Kurtis took a half day.  We thought that would give us plenty of time to beat the crowds to the hills.  Nope!  There was a fire near Banks that closed Hwy 55, which brought everyone to our favorite, normally quiet northbound Hwy 95.  By the time we got to the lake (after a 22 mile dirt road and an impatient 1.5 year old), the campground was FULL!  Quite dissappointing!  But we drove up the road a little ways and found a small area with a fire ring and snagged it!  We set up camp and one of us promptly did a faceplant and was covered in the most disgusting moon dust/floury/powdery dirt EVER!  Such is the life of a camper!

Kurtis' friend Brian and his son Connor joined us later that evening.  We just hung around camp that night and enjoyed the stunning mountain stars!

The next day, we hiked in to a little lake called Rainbow Lake.  It was just a 3 mile hike in, which made it fairly easy packing little Clara on our backs.  (We did alternate though, I packed her in, and Kurtis packed her out!)  We fished, and ate lunch at the lake, and after a few hours headed back out.  It was a great little day trip!

Aren't those little size 5 hiking boots the cutest things you've ever seen!  Thanks Busch family for the killer hand-me-downs!!!

Here are Connor and I at the fork in the trail where we turned left to head to the lake.

Clara was a gem and slept on the way in and on the way out!

The only bad thing about this particular trail is that it was covered with the same, icky dusty dirt as our campsite!  When we got back, we were completely covered in it.  So, we headed down to a tiny creek below our campsite and scrubbed up a bit!  Clara loved it because the creek was just her size!  She even drank some of that cold, mountain stream water...which made her mother flip!  All I could think was that she'd wake up in the night with the explosive diarrhea that comes with giardia.  We lucked out, thankfully, so the fun in the creek was worth it!

Later that night, Clara played in the tent trailer (thanks Jeff and Janet for letting us use it!), and had a nice bath.  However, being clean doesn't last long.
This is her the next morning...another face plant and she was a mess all over again!  Oh well...that's what the bathtub at home is for!

The highlights of this trip were the fun in the creek, the incredible meteor showers Saturday night- our view from the mountains was breathtaking, and watching a fire helicopter dunk into the Payetter river and suck water up its hose and then take off RIGHT NEXT TO US as we drove past him near Banks.  Oh, and we also got to see Uncle Brian in McCall, have lunch with him on the lake, and check out his sweet new pad!  She talked about Uncle Brian and the cat that frequents the outside of his apartment for days..."Bri...MEOW".  It was a fantastic weekend enjoying the beautiful place we call home!

quick trip to Lewiston.

Clara and I bravely headed north to Lewiston for Uncle Steve's 30th birthday.  We had never taken a long car trip as just a duo, and I was nervous.  Clara isn't the best traveler I know!  But, I bought a portable DVD player, a few cheap kid DVDs (gotta love those PBS shows), and we were off!  She was a wonderful traveler, both up and back!  Thank goodness.

As we neared Lewiston, we started talking about who we were going to see in a few minutes.  I'd say a name, and she'd repeat that name.  When I said Steve, she said "weez".  The nickname Uncle Wheezy was born...which is completely appropriate because his last name is Kauf-(cough)-man.

We went for just the weekend, but we had loads of fun.  On Steve's actual birthday, he woke up and mentioned he'd go like to look for a baby gate for the top of the stairs at the new house...at Walmart.  Classic!  So we courageously headed to the Walmart in Clarkston (courageous because just a few months ago, a man was attacked by a vicious rattle snake!).

The weekend was great!  We ate well, played some games, let the kids run around together, and painted nails.  I'm sure it was just the kind of weekend Steve was hoping for to celebrate his 30th!

Mom was already up there when Clara and I arrived on Friday night, and the three of us headed out in our two separate cars on Sunday morning.  Teenie was sneaky and planned a surprise get together with the Kaufmans for Sunday afternoon, but we had to be back in Boise for work on Monday morning, so we had to miss out on the fun.   It was still a great weekend!  Happy 30th Uncle Wheezy!

Here are some fun photos of the weekend!

The progression of these next pics are hilarious.  To get a good picture of two toddlers is quite the challenge!

Here's the beer cake I made for Steve's b-day.  Really classy, I know, but Kurtis guaranteed me that out of all the beers in the world, Steve would prefer a beer cake made of Keystone Light...and Kurtis was right.
Here is a hilarious pic of Steve and Clara.  (Notice he's drinking a Sessions, that's more like it Steve!)

And here is the view from Steve and Teenie's new house.  Pretty farmland as far as you can see.  It is just where they belong.

camping at Bull Trout Lake Campground

We enjoyed our first camping trip of the year with many Brooks family members this year.  We headed northeast to a campground between Lowman and Stanley, ID.  We were extra fortunate to have Kurtis' Aunt Patty and her granddaughter Raquel along with us.  Get ready for picture overload!

We had to buy Clara a few new bits of gear for this camping trip.  She got her own chair, her own sleeping bag, and her own lifejacket!

The reason I look so happy here is because this was the moment Clara decided to drink milk again, after two weeks of NOT ONE SIP OF MILK AT ALL!  I found this "sport bottle" with a picture of Elmo on it and thought I'd give it a try.  Who know why she decided to drink milk that night, but she did.  I was thrilled to win that battle that she was drinking milk!

Clara giving Pop a tour of the campsite, naturally!

Clara was so happy Raquel came to Idaho and camping with us

Clara really adored Rocket!

Saturday afternoon, while the menfolk fished, we girls headed for some beach time at Redfish Lake

the lovely Sawtooth Mountain Range

Raquel tried out paddleboarding

It took her a little while to get warmed up, but once she did, I think she loved it!

My fave pic of Raquel!
