11 months old.

Clara turned 11 months old on January 22.  We didn't get her weighed, but her height is now 30 inches, and her head is 18 inches around.  She still takes two good naps a day, and is very crabby if she doesn't get enough sleep.  She longs to be independent in everything...even in putting on her shoes.  She went through a phase this month when she would ONLY eat what she could feed herself.  Eating has been our greatest challenge with Clara.  She loves a variety of foods, but she eats only on her terms.  There's been a whole lot of food throwing going on at our house, and at first I was worried, but after reading up on it, it seems to be somewhat normal.  So there are some meals that are wonderful, and other meals that really shouldn't be called meals at all.  She loves eating o's (Cheerios), and continues to love broccoli and cauliflower.  Some new foods she likes are Brussels sprouts, zucchini, eggs, grapefruit, and oranges.  In fact, tonight she ate an entire mandarin orange on her own.

Clara is walking independently now.  She can walk across whole rooms and loves her push toy (it no longer causes great frustration for her when she runs into things).  She also discovered her tummy this month, especially in the tub.  When we talk about her tummy, she rubs it and gives it a little massage.  So cute!

She loves to turn lights and the bathroom fan on and off.  She holds her hand up to her ear when the phone rings and leans to one side as if saying "Hello!".  She knows what a puppy says - a gruntlike oooo (as in book), and she knows what a cow says - mmmmmmm.  She repeats the sound ow a lot, and on her own is just a little chatterbox.  She's speaking whole sentences in jibberish and is so fun to listen to!  She also loves when we read her name on the wall above her crib.  Before we leave her room, she holds her hand up and we need to read her name before leaving.  She understands the word no, and shakes her little head when we say it (thank you dog food/water and throwing food for letting us experience "No thank you" on an almost daily basis.  She says mama when she sees me, and says dada when she sees Kurtis, although this only happens every once in a while.  She stopped signing more and all done, the girl is quirky!  And every time she is close to the puppies, she has to lean down and give them kisses.    She also loves taking big swigs of water out of her sippy cup and just throws her head back while she drinks.

She is no longer out little tiny baby, just a little person now.  Each day brings new discoveries, and Kurtis and I can't help but be amazed at her all the time.  We are constantly talking about how in awe we are of her development.  It is such a treat to see her personality traits shining through at such an early age.  She gets frustrated when things aren't easy for her, she is patient and has a great attention span while reading books, she loves interaction with others and seeks it out always, and she isn't afraid to take risks.  We just adore her!

Here are some recent pics.  We tried a couple time to take pictures for this 11 month posts.  The first time, she was a little sleepy...
 and testy.
So she took a nap and woke up happy...
but was too involved in reading books to pay the camera much attention.

So we tried again, and she hammed it up!
She bit the windowsill for the camera, just looking for a reaction from me (she looks for a reaction from us all the time!).

 Silly girl!
 She played with my phone.
She gave this silly face which she gives quite often.  While making this face, she breathes in and out really quickly and always finishes it off with a giggle.

 Good smile!

And I had to stick this in so I can remember a long time from now those great cheeks of hers!

Happy 11th month sweet Clara!

vampire.

Just so you know, Clara was once a vampire.  This picture is awful, but as her mother, I felt it was my duty to document this quirky fact about Clara.

You'll be happy to know that her middle teeth have grown in just fine...in fact, they're quite large.  Now she has huge front teeth (she comes by it naturally), but we'll stay vigilant about watching for an abnormally pale face and signs of blood-sucking behavior.

walking.

We are shocked to announce that little miss Clara is walking.  Sometimes she needs assistance from her push toy...
other times she just goes for it!  It started at about 10.5 months, one step here, another step there.  It has progressed to around 10 steps now and her confidence is growing by the minute!  Watch out!  Clara is ON the move!

baby Will.

Clara has a new cousin and we couldn't be more excited!!!  His name is William Henry and he was born on Jan. 14th weighing 9 lbs 10 oz.  He's a little moose, the kind of moose that is the cutest moose you've ever seen!  We went back and forth all week about heading to Palouse.  Teenie's due date was Friday the 13th and we thought she'd have had the baby by then for sure because we knew baby was so big.  Wednesday night rolled around and I said I wasn't going.  I texted my sisters and mom and said I was out.  My mom promptly called me and before I knew it, I was in again!

We drove up Friday morning and got to Palouse at about 1 pm.  Teenie and Steve left for the hospital at 6:30 and baby Will Will (as Ben calls him) was born in the night!  We couldn't have timed it better!

So...we got to spend the weekend with Ben.  We got to see baby Will three days in a row.  We got to witness a FREAK snowstorm on the Palouse and almost got snowed in!  All in all, it was a great weekend!  Here are the pics to prove it!

Here's Oma with her 3 grandbabies

Auntie Em with 2/3 of her nieces and nephews
Sick of hospital room pictures yet?

Didn't think so!  Who can resist a picture of an hours old baby!  Gosh.  He's just beautiful.
 Cue the oohs and ahhs.

Here is William sucking his thumb!
 Teenie and her two babies.
This is Steve's brother Phil who really knows how to show off a newborn's face!  The rest of us need to take lessons.  This is the cutest picture of Will.  He looks just like his big brother Ben!
And brace yourselves...this was the best picture of the weekend!  Here is Ben meeting his new brother!
For the sake of Ben in years to come, his mama had just taken away a toy car so he could pose for the picture.  That's the real reason he's crying, not because of his baby brother.  It just couldn't have been a better first picture of these brothers!

Teenie...thanks for going into labor on such a perfect day.  Teenie and Steve - Thanks for letting us crash at your house.  Thanks for giving Clara another cousin to play with.  And thanks for giving Kurtis and I another nephew to love.  We can't wait to squeeze baby William again soon!

on the verge.

If anyone knows how to stop time, let me know, because this little girl is on the verge of walking.  Not that I never want her to walk...it's just that I hate how fast she's reaching these important milestones.  Walking is a sign that a year really has gone by since she was born.  Onto the story.  She is borrowing a little push toy from her cousin Ben.  When we let her try it about a month ago, it slipped right out from underneath her and made her cry.  But just look at her now!

And here she is making her funny, scrunchy face while walking along.

Here are a few still shots.

I really wish I would have gotten some video of the times she ran into something and got stuck.  Whoa!  According to my mom, Clara has a temper like I did when I was small.  Apparently, if she can't do something perfectly the first time she tries it, watch out!  The girl is getting a little bit of 'tude at times.  But I know I'd be disappointed if she didn't have a little spunk in her!

Good thing she's cute!

Oh yeah, don't mind Cash Cab in the background!

cheetah girls.

We realized one day that both Emily and Clara were wearing cheetah print.  Naturally, we took pictures.  Crazy girls!

 Love it!

mother/daughter brunch.

This is one of my favorite Christmas traditions!  Each year, I do a brunch with a few girls who I met in middle school and became very close with in college.  We get together with our moms, our sisters, our daughters and nieces and whoever can make it and do a brunch during the holidays.  Some years we do brunch at one of our houses, and other years we go out.  This year, we went to brunch/lunch at Kneaders.  We missed Teri terribly, but had a wonderful few hours catching up and being loud!

It was great to be able to bring my daughter to brunch this year!

 Here's the crowd.
 Jessica and Tabitha (Teri's niece)
Julie and Kathy (Teri's mom and sister in law)
The Kom women, Sarah, Katie, Rowan and Donna
 Us Waldon girls
 Us girls...sans Teri
The moms - they're the best!
Ok - one more of the three of us!
This tradition is something I look forward to all year long.  I love seeing these girls.  No matter how long it has been between visits, we always manage to jump in right where we left off!  Thanks girls for a great day!
